DNIPRO CHOIR HONORS TARAS SHEVCHENKO ON HIS 202nd BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

On March 9, 2016, Dnipro Choir traditionally took part in celebrations dedicated to outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist, public and political figure, Taras Shevchenko.

Marking the 202nd anniversary of birth of the poet, the rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Mr. Leonid Hubersky took part in the ceremony of laying flowers to the Taras Shevchenko monument. An immutable tradition of Dnipro Choir to participate in such annual ceremonies has remained over the decades. The choir traditionally performed strong cords of “Testament” and “The Mighty Dnipro Roars”, lyrics by Shevchenko.

On the same day Dnipro Choir sang at a concert dedicated to Taras Shevchenko held in the National Centre of Folk Culture “Ivan Honchar Museum”. Dnipro Choir performed the poems the famous Ukrainian poet. Both the audience and participants were deeply touched by prophetic messages delivered in Shevchenko’s lines. Given the turbulent time that our country experiences, one felt the audience’s desire for “the great new family, the family of the free”.
